One Last Ride Around Doraville

Well… here we are. After years of interviews, late-night edits, lost files, miraculous recoveries, emotional breakthroughs, technical disasters, borrowed equipment, unexpected friendships, caffeine-fueled rewrites, and more “we’ll figure it out somehow” moments than we can count… Made in Doraville: The Movie is finally ready for public release!
And honestly? We still can’t quite believe it.
What started as a simple idea — telling the story of a little city with a giant heart — slowly turned into one of the hardest, funniest, most rewarding journeys of our lives. Somewhere along the way, this documentary stopped becoming “a film project” and became something much more personal.
It became a love letter... to the town that "made" us.
Not just to Doraville itself… but to the people who built it, protected it, remembered it, and kept showing up for it. Every time we hit a wall, something unbelievable happened.
An interview we thought we'd never land suddenly came through.
A stranger offered help at exactly the right moment.
Someone donated equipment.
Someone shared an old photograph.
Someone opened a door.
Someone said, “Keep going.”
And somehow… we did.
There were moments we were convinced this movie would never see the light of day. More than once, the universe looked at us and said, “Have you considered giving up and opening a nice candle shop instead?”
But then another miracle would happen. And another. And another.
We’ve laughed until we cried making this thing. We’ve also cried until we laughed.
And through all of it, the people of Doraville never stopped supporting us.
To everyone who shared stories, memories, meals, encouragement, historical artifacts, Facebook posts, prayers, hugs, locations, music, time, props, or simply asked, “How’s the movie coming?” — thank you. Seriously.
This film belongs to you as much as it belongs to us.
Now, we’d be lying if we said this journey ended exactly how we originally imagined. The film festival circuit didn’t quite open its doors to these first time filmmakers. And we're still waiting on "that call" from the public television station. Those moments stung a bit, simply because we knew we had a story that everyone would find relatable and nostalgic.
But ultimately, we realized something important: this movie was never really about trophies, deals, or industry validation.
It was about Doraville.
It was about preserving stories that matter.
It was about capturing the soul of a community before time carried parts of it away.
And most importantly — it was about the people who believed in this project long before anyone else did.
So instead of letting the film sit on a hard drive collecting digital dust while we wait for someone else to “approve” it… we decided to do something better.
We’re releasing Made in Doraville on YouTube.
For free.
For the diehards.
For the hometown heroes.
For the people who have cheered us on since day one.
For the former GM families.
For the musicians.
For the immigrants.
For the small business owners.
For everyone who ever drove through Doraville and somehow left with a story.
This movie was made with love. Imperfect, stubborn, heartfelt love. And we are incredibly proud of it.
Thank you for believing in us. Thank you for believing in Doraville. Thank you for being a part of her story.
